Horner syndrome secondary to edema of the longus colli muscle: a case report

Abstract Background Horner syndrome is caused by disruption to any part of the oculosympathetic nerve supply, and classically characterized triad ptosis, miosis, facial anhidrosis. Two cases secondary longus colli edema have previously been reported in literature; however, this first case bilateral asymmetric inflammation causing unilateral syndrome. Case presentation An 18-year-old male was found unresponsive his car after a motor vehicle accident new onset anisocoria with miotic left pupil left-sided ptosis consistent Imaging unremarkable except for MRI neck soft tissues, which revealed abnormal increased signal intensity extensive muscle shorter segment right muscle. Conclusion The patient’s imaging results suggest muscle, as second-order sympathetic innervation eye runs under colli.
